New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) Superintendent Adrienne A. Harris has appointed Hudson River Community Credit Union (HRCCU) CEO Sue Commanda to the DFS State Charter Advisory Board. The appointment is for a three-year term that begins in April.
The DFS State Charter Advisory Board is comprised of nine members who represent different types of state-chartered financial and consumer interests in New York State. The board consists of one representative of credit unions, one representative of consumers, one representative of foreign banks, and representatives of banks reflecting a range of assets, size and geographical location. The board works with the Superintendent in retaining state chartered banking institutions, encouraging federally chartered institutions to convert to a state charter, and promoting the state banking system. Commanda will serve as the sole representative of credit unions.
“As the only member of the State Charter Advisory Board appointed to represent credit unions, I am committed to providing insight that ensures a strong and equitable state charter banking system,” said Commanda. “Just like the credit union principal of promoting the well-being of our members, I hope to use this opportunity to be a strong voice for state chartered credit unions of all sizes, and to provide important input on DFS policies and regulations that put consumers first and serve the needs of local economies. It is an honor to serve as the board’s only credit union representative.”
Commanda is a 21-year employee of HRCCU, serving in her current role as CEO since 2006. Before joining HRCCU, she spent 13 years as the Vice President of Strategic Consulting Services for the Credit Union Association of New York. In addition to her role at the credit union, she holds several board positions supporting community organizations including the Saratoga Regional YMCA, Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, the Women Presidents Organization, and Saratoga Shredders.
Headquartered in Corinth, with five full-service branches from Glens Falls to Troy, HRCCU is a state-chartered financial institution with more than 33,000 members and $336 million in assets. Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school located within Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Rensselaer counties or the Towns of Cohoes, Watervliet or Green Island and their immediate families are eligible to join.
