Investing in Our Community: HRCCU Donates $7,500 to Hudson River Mill Museum for Roof Replacement

Hudson River Community Credit Union (HRCCU) is proud to announce a $7,500 donation to the Hudson River Mill Museum to support the replacement of the historic building’s roof and help preserve an important piece of Corinth’s industrial heritage.

Keeping a Longstanding Commitment.

The donation continues HRCCU’s longstanding commitment to the museum and its shared history with the former International Paper mill. In 2025, following significant vandalism that caused extensive damage to the museum, HRCCU contributed $10,000 toward restoration efforts and helped lead a community matching campaign that ultimately raised more than $20,000 for the museum.

“HRCCU has a deep connection to the Hudson River Mill Museum and the history it preserves,” said Sue Commanda, CEO of HRCCU.

“The museum tells the story of the paper mill, the people who worked there and the community that grew around it. Supporting the replacement of the roof is another way we can help ensure this important piece of our shared history is preserved for future generations.”

The Hudson River Mill Museum is located in the former International Paper Company office building at 17 Pine Street in Corinth. The building is part of the former Hudson River Pulp & Paper Company mill site, which dates to 1869. In 1898, the mill became part of International Paper, eventually becoming one of the company’s largest plants and an important center of economic and community life in Corinth. The mill closed in 2002.

The museum’s connection to HRCCU is particularly significant. HRCCU was founded in 1954 by employees of International Paper Company in Corinth as IPCO Federal Credit Union, and the credit union’s first office was located in the building that now houses the museum. Many of HRCCU’s early employees and members also worked at the paper mill.

“Preserving this building means preserving the history of the people and businesses that helped shape Corinth,” Commanda added. “We are proud to continue supporting the museum and the work being done to protect this history.”

The Hudson River Mill Museum interprets the development of the pulp and paper industry in the Southern Adirondacks and preserves the history of more than a century of paper manufacturing in Corinth.
