HRCCU’s 2023 Hudson River Mill Museum Matching Campaign

The donation is a result of a matching campaign held at the credit union’s Corinth Branch in September. HRCCU signed on to match up to $5,000 in individual donations in order to assist the Friends of the Hudson River Mill Museum in their effort to raise funds to repair and restore the historic site of the museum.

“The history of International Paper Company and HRCCU are intricately entwined due to our shared past,” said Sue Commanda, CEO of HRCCU. “It’s an honor to be able to contribute to the repair and restoration of this historic building where our early credit union employees and many of our members once worked. The museum is a terrific resource to the Corinth community and an important way to preserve the history of the men and women who helped shape the paper industry in our region.”

The museum is located in the former International Paper Company office building located at 17 Pine Street in Corinth. The museum interprets the development of the pulp and paper industry in the Southern Adirondacks. It also celebrates the 133 years of paper manufacturing in Corinth.

The Hudson River Mill at Corinth was first built in 1869 by Pagenstecher & Associates and was called The Hudson River Pulp & Paper Co. In 1898, it became one of 17 mills that formed International Paper. In the early 20th century, the mill was one of International Paper’s largest plants and served both as its principal office, and a place where paper workers helped shape the direction of the industry’s early labor movement. The mill closed in November 2002.

Hudson River Community Credit Union (HRCCU) was founded in 1954 by the employees of International Paper Company in Corinth as IPCO Federal Credit Union. The credit union’s first office was housed at the site of the mill museum.
